Other causes of periodontal disease would be circumstantial at some levels.  Sometimes, it could be hereditary.  If your family has been known to having a background of periodontal disease, then you can point that out as a reason.  Some hormonal changes also affect your oral health patterns.  This is most especially applicable to pregnant women.  Other illnesses might also affect your immune system that’s why there are instances wherein your dental health is affected.  Diseases such as cancer and diabetes can affect this.

Depending on the case and circumstance, each periodontal disease treatment may vary.  When the complication is still manageable, non-surgical procedures can be applicable.  Examples of these would be scaling and root planning.  In the process of scaling, the unnecessary tartars are removed from the teeth.  For root planning, the surface of the teeth is smoothened to avoid any buildup of tartar in the future.  Medications are also another way of treating periodontal disease.  You may ask your dentist about it.

However, if the disease has gone beyond limits, the periodontal disease treatment might be altered.  This time, the treatments might involve surgeries.  Performing surgeries are only applicable if it cannot be resolved by simple means anymore.  This method may be costly and stressful, so if you wish to avoid it, try to develop a better oral hygiene pattern.
